Distorted Slideshow Picture Problems

Generally slideshow and gallery pages in Allwebco templates do not include height and width numbers. Some editors such as Frontpage and Dreamweaver may add height and width numbers and this may distort some images in your HTML pages if you have mixed image sizes (landscape and portrait) on a page. Here are some suggestions for solving these problems.

If this is a "gallery?.htm" problem please click here.

Squished slideshow pictures:
The slideshow originally included in all templates prevents pictures from being squished by not having a width and height defined, however, certain HTML editors will add code that can squish the pictures. To solve the problem, open the slideshow.htm in Notepad or a text editor and do a search for name="show". The code shown below is all that should be on that line in the slideshow.htm. There should be no "length=" or "width=". If you are getting squished pictures, edit your code to match the following:

<img src="gallery/Fgallery1-1.jpg" name="show"><br>

Solution #1: Edit and FTP upload:
Open the problem "slideshow.htm" in Notepad or a plain text editor and do a search for name="show". This line of image code should not have any height or width numbers included. If this code is present, remove the "height=" and "width=" code. You must now upload using FTP software, otherwise Frontpage (and some other editors) will add these sizes back in.

Solution #2: Edit in your Hosting Control Panel
After you have uploaded or published your template: You can edit the sizes out in your control panel. If you have Allwebco hosting, Login to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail", go to "Site Manager". Select the slideshow.htm with the radio button on the right, then choose the "edit" button at the bottom. Find the image area with called "STARTING SLIDE" with the name="show" as part of the line of code. Edit any "height" and any "width" numbers out. If you do not have Allwebco hosting, see if you have an on-line text editor built into your control panel.

Fixing this with Frontpage Software option #1:
Open your Frontpage software. Select "Tools" then "Page Options" then "HTML Source" from the menu. Click on "Preserve Existing html" in these options. This option prevents Frontpage from disturbing any existing template code.

Fixing this with Frontpage software option #2:
Frontpage has a glitch that adds sizes to any image that does not have sizes defined. This solution was sent in by one of our Frontpage users: Choose "Insert" on the main toolbar, then choose "Web Component", "Advanced Controls", "HTML". This allows you to insert HTML code that FrontPage will ignore. It encloses the code as follows:

<!--webbot bot="HTMLMarkup" startspan -->
INSERTED CODE TO IGNORE HERE
<!--webbot bot="HTMLMarkup" endspan -->
